We also delve into the importance of understanding and discussing the sex industry, particularly in a polarized and binary-thinking cultural moment. By giving audiences the opportunity to formulate their own opinions, we can create a healthier relationship with erotica and our sex lives. We touch on the influence of patriarchy and the voices of women in the sex industry, as well as the idea of generational trauma and the importance of healing from stigma, shame, and secrets to free ourselves and others across the gender continuum. Join me (Laura) and Sarah Jones as we explore these topics and more in this compelling and thought-provoking episode.

DAVID PAKMAN SHOW 3/30/23 (00:54:48)

On the Show: A new series of leaked emails from Fox News expose executives arguing that telling the truth is bad for their ratings. The anti-trans right wing is immediately using the recent shooting in Nashville, Tennessee to declare war against transgender people. Fox News propagandist Sean Hannity is the latest to send the right-wing mob against David for his recent tweet about the Nashville, Tennessee shooting. The Daily Wire’s Michael Knowles irresponsibly and disgustingly claims that David fabricated claims of antisemitic threats in response to his recent tweet. In a stunning turn of events, the David Pakman Show audience has powerfully beaten back the right-wing mob targeting the show this week. Radical Republican Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene is suspended from Twitter for threats against trans community. Donald Trump tells Sean Hannity that he gets along with nearly every dictator in an unhinged recent interview. Donald Trump reportedly is asking for “battle plans” to “attack Mexico” if he is elected President in 2024. Repugnant Republican Congresswoman Lauren Boebert is obsessed with public urination at a recent hearing, and it backfires spectacularly. Voicemail caller delivers a powerful message of support against the right wing hate mob targeting David this week.

CHOOSE TO BE CURIOUS: Slow Looking & Visible Thinking, with Claire Bown (00:28:00)

Claire Bown teaches people how to connect more with art. Her guide “How to Look at Art (Slowly)” is as rich a compendium of curiosity practices as I’ve ever found. Claire’s professional focus is museums, but she’d be the first to tell you: the skills she shares are useful anywhere… “As adults, we don’t spend too long in observation. We tend to want to jump straight in to interpreting and what we think. It’s actually quite useful for us to take a step back, and just dwell in observation for a little bit, because those details that we notice will help fuel our curiosity.” ~ Claire Bown.

DAVID PAKMAN SHOW 3/29/23 (00:56:57)

On the Show: Donald Trump Jr, Candace Owens, Infowars, and many others unleash a hate mob against David for an obviously tongue-in-cheek tweet. The right wing hate mob, which regularly claims to be against cancel culture, is contacting all of our advertisers in an effort to get David canceled. Thoughts and prayers don’t prevent mass shootings, but we look at 10 policy proposals that would reduce their frequency and severity. Republican Senator Ted Cruz is desperate to get on Fox News and puts on quite a show at a recent Senate hearing with Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. Donald Trump’s latest interview with Fox News propagandist Sean Hannity is genuinely scaring people. Donald Trump admits he will try to cheat in 2024 with “ballot harvesting,” which infuriates MyPillow’s Mike Lindell. Have the so-called “victims” of cancel culture actually been canceled?. Donald Trump wildly and incorrectly claims to have “appointed” Ron Desantis, which he did not do. Voicemail caller is disgusted with the hate mob unleashed against David in the last 24 hours by Donald Trump Jr and other right wing extremists.

THE CHILDREN’S HOUR: Squid (00:58:00)

This time on The Children’s Hour, we learn about squid with Skype A Scientist, Dr. Sarah McAnulty. These ubiquitous creatures are the psychedelic acrobats of the ocean. This episode comes with a free Learn-Along guide which meets and cites US National education standards. Our Learn-Along guides further explore our show themes and provide context and visuals. Plus they’re fun! Squid are in the cephalopod family with octopus, cuttlefish, and nautilus. This ancient family of marine invertebrates pre-date trees on Earth, and can be found in all oceans, at all depths. Squid can be bioluminescent, like fireflies and some cave creatures we have learned about on The Childrens Hour. The Colossal Squid is the largest of all squid and can eat a whale! They also have bioluminescent eyes that are the size of footballs. We also learn about Skype A Scientist, the organization that provides free scientific experts to any group on any topic. A science communicator, Dr. McAnulty founded Skype A Scientist to increase direct conversations between the scientific community and the public. This episode is mixed with excellent music to further educate about squid!

Get the book: https://amzn.to/42NZZny  Right-wingers immediately blame demons, transgender people, and gender-affirming care for the shooting at the Christian Covenant School in Nashville, Tennessee. A mother visiting Nashville, Tennessee hijacks a Fox News report about the recent mass shooting to call for gun safety regulations to be passed. A visibly disoriented Donald Trump gives a confused and bizarre interview to Fox News propagandist Sean Hannity, focusing heavily on attacking Ron DeSantis. Even Republicans, including former Republican Congressman Jason Chaffetz and Fox News hosts Brian Kilmeade, slam Donald Trump for his terrible interview with Sean Hannity. Despite a concerted attack from the American right wing, it appears as though “wokeness” is actually winning out in the United States. Donald Trump releases a bizarre video about parents loving, or not loving, their children. RADIO ART HOUR (00:00:00)

“Sonnenlicht” from Scanner’s 1999 album “Lauwarm Instrumentals” starts the show off. Then tune in “Avian Love” by Colin Black. Black writes, “Nikola Tesla was a brilliant engineer and eccentric who is considered to be the inventor of radio and alternating current. However, his greatest love was not technology, but a pigeon. ‘Avian Love’ is a sound composition for radio about Teslas love for his beloved pigeon that is full of electricity and electrifying feelings. In New York, there is a sign at the corner of 6th Avenue and West 40th Street: ‘Nikola Tesla Corner.’ Between 1884 and 1943, the inventor stopped by here countless times to feed pigeons. Sometimes he took sick animals to the hotel where he lived permanently. There he nursed them back to health. I have been feeding pigeons, thousands of them for years. But there was one, a beautiful bird, pure white with light grey tips on its wings; that one was different. It was a female. I had only to wish and call her and she would come flying to me. I loved that pigeon as a man loves a woman, and she loved me. As long as I had her, there was a purpose to my life. Her eyes shone more to Tesla than any invention he had developed in his lab.” Colin Black celebrates Tesla’s dove in a composition of sounds and music. Colin Black is a composer based in Australia. In 2003 he received the Prix Italia in the Radio Music category and in 2015 the Gold Award at the New York Festival. As part of his doctoral thesis at the University of Sydney, he researched the history of radiophonic sound art.

CREATING OUR PREFERRED FUTURE: First Half Part Three – Primer For Paradigm Shift (00:29:00)

A Primer For Paradigm Shift is a four part series. It is a how to for paradigm shift. The first half of Part 3 explains the term “human potential footprint.” It is the social counterpart to the term ecological footprint. The first half of Part 3 also compares aspects of the consumer culture and how that aspect might look in a preferred future. Such as food choices, suburbia, celebrity culture; kitchens and bathrooms; cars and much more. The primer affirms, we don’t need to wait for some rainbow future. DAVID PAKMAN SHOW 3/27/23 (00:56:29)

On the Show: There is no open US-Mexico border, despite the insistence of many in the modern American right wing. Florida Republican Governor Ron DeSantis’ major would-be donors are increasingly worried that he can’t possibly take on Donald Trump in a protracted national primary election. Donald Trump holds his first official 2024 campaign rally in Waco, Texas, and it’s an absolute disaster and global humiliation. David Pakman Show correspondent Luke Beasley is on the ground at the Donald Trump rally in Waco, Texas, and it’s a veritable horror show. Donald Trump rally attendees and speakers expose much of what is wrong with the United States in 2023. Donald Trump threatens “death and destruction” in a dangerous 1 AM rant posted to Truth Social. BRADCAST 3/23/23: Kari Lake still not Gov. of AZ; DeSantis proven a liar on FL’s ‘Don’t Say Gay’ law (00:57:30)

On today’s ‘BradCast’: Is being a terrible human being now a requisite for elected (and unelected) Republican lawmakers? Sore loser Republican grifter Kari Lake in Arizona is still hoaxing her remaining supporters, still lying about her 2022 election loss, and lying about the Arizona Supreme Court’s rejection of six out of seven of her baseless claims of election fraud. The Court sent one claim back to a lower court for a rehearing focused on state election procedures, but it will not result in overturning her election loss. Last year, Florida’s GOP Gov. Ron DeSantis attacked critics of his ‘Don’t Say Gay’ law who pointed out that the bill’s vague language banning discussion of LGBTQ issues would not remain limited to grades K-3, as DeSantis claimed. Now, exactly as critics predicted, DeSantis has bypassed the state legislature and unilaterally ordered the ban extended to all grades K-12. The GOP state lawmaker who authored the ‘Don’t Say Gay’ bill has pleaded guilty to numerous felonies for fraudulently obtaining COVID relief funds. Nebraska State Sen. Megan Hunt excoriates GOP lawmakers for ramming through an anti-trans health care bill, vowing to halt the rest of the legislative session. Plus Desi Doyen has our latest ‘Green News Report.’

EARTH RIOT RADIO: Colonizing the Super Storm. Impossible? (00:29:01)

If the Earth is intelligent” if the Gaia Theory is true, then she wouldn’t want to live in the role of every human beings’ “Other”, and neither would I. This is exactly what we have done, to storms and floods, starvation and drought, heatwave and novel viruses. We colonize when we separate these disasters from each other and pretend that each is a stand alone event. Climate science denial is one thing, but proclaiming that the daily disasters are not coming from one source…that is the denial adopted by all liberal governments, religions, and corporations. It is easily hidden in their marketing fakery, and it will kill us all.

Best of ATTITUDE with ARNIE ARNESEN 3/25/23 (00:59:30)

Segment One

We begin with Robert Hockett, of Cornell University, about bank deposit protections, and how this can be improved.

Segment Two

We then talk with Jennifer Berkshire about the status of public schools in the United States. And the near relentless support by Republicans for anything other than public schools. Everyone of their programs seeks to siphon public monies away to private institutions. Opponents claim that the goal is to kill public education via wealth redistribution to upperclass families. An argument which is becoming clear as voucher program(s) data is collected in states that have enacted these programs. The overwhelming majority of vouchers are being given to families with kids already in private schools. Thereby acting as a subsidy for wealthy families rather than offering a better option for working class families. And in a startling new development finds that in these same states there are GOP led efforts to relax and/or eliminate child labor laws. Jennifer suggests that these seemingly disparate laws are actually part of an overarching end game by the right to end public education and in turn force families to send their kids off to work.

WINGS #49-22 Reproductive Slavery From the 19th to the 21st Century (00:28:58)

Roberts delivered the 2023 Frances Tarlton ‘Sissy’ Farenthold Endowed Lecture in Peace, Social Justice and Human Rights, on the intersections between reproductive rights, criminalization of pregnancy, and the family policing/separation systems in the aftermath of the June 2022 Dobbs decision. She explored the histories of compelled births in the US dating back to Black women’s reproductive bondage during slavery, and the abolitionist frameworks that call for the dismantling of these targeted, oppressive structures for more compassionate and equitable reproductive rights and family support systems. Her talk was titled The Long Struggle to Abolish Reproductive Slavery. The talk is excerpted here. See credits for a link to the entire event.

DAVID PAKMAN SHOW 3/23/23 (00:56:04)

On the Show: We discuss how to actually tax the ultra-rich tax dodgers as Democratic Senators urge President Joe Biden to take action. Arkansas, under the leadership of Republican Governor Sarah Huckabee-Sanders, restricts school bathroom use by transgender people. Republican Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is already falling in 2024 polling, potentially jeopardizing his not-yet-started 2024 campaign. Many Republicans are now calling for Florida Governor Ron DeSantis to block Donald Trump’s potential extradition from Florida to New York, if he is arrested. Piers Morgan interviews Ron DeSantis, and it exposes the true dangers of a potential DeSantis presidency. Red states tend to have higher murder and gun crime rates than blue states do. RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel admits she is quickly losing control of the 2024 Republican primary. Donald Trump begs his followers for money in a new video riddled with conspiracy theories. Donald Trump’s followers donated $1.5 million to Trump in 3 days in response to Trump’s arrest claims. Voicemail caller is really angry with David, and has figured out that David is not “a Christian.”

HOW MUCH MONEY IS ENOUGH? – The Story of the Mexican Fisherman (00:05:20)

This is one of my favorite stories. It’s about an American businessman and a Mexican fisherman. A lot of people want to make more money so they can live a better life. They tell themselves: “Once I make enough money, then I’ll go live the life I want.” But that’s a mistake. Living the life they want should be accomplished now, not later. They spend the majority of their lives working, but along the way, they often forget what they’re working for. They start to prioritize work and making more money without a reason, and that’s a problem. They just want to have more and more, with no apparent end goal. The Mexican Fisherman story is here to remind you to take a step back, and think about what you’re actually working for, and what you already have. Every so often, you should reflect on and reevaluate your priorities. There is more to life than just work and money after all. So how much is enough?

CHOOSE TO BE CURIOUS: Curiosity & the Craving Mind, with Dr. Judson Brewer (00:28:00)

Curiosity as a way to break bad habits and disrupt addiction? Really? Yes, absolutely, says Dr. Jud Brewer, director of research at Brown University’s Mindfulness Center. This conversation is all about the thrilling intersection of brain imaging, mindfulness, meditation and curiosity in service of our health. Pretty cool stuff. “If you had to strip everything else away in terms of the utility of helping people change bad habits, I would keep curiosity as the last thing.” ~ Jud Brewer

DAVID PAKMAN SHOW 3/22/23 (00:57:09)

On the Show: Matt Gertz, Senior Fellow at Media Matters, joins David to discuss the potential fallout from the Fox News Dominion lawsuit, the recent Trump vs DeSantis dynamics that have developed on Fox, and much more. Republican Senator Lindsey Graham says that a Trump indictment would “blow up our country,” except protesters aren’t seeming too motivated at this time. The few protesters that show up outside of Trump Tower are protesting in favor of a Trump arrest rather than against it. Donald Trump is reportedly completely disconnected from reality, doesn’t understand the legal trouble he is in, and wants to be handcuffed if he is arrested. Donald Trump’s new hip-hop attorney, Drew Findling, appears on MSNBC and makes a fool of himself. Failed former President Donald Trump goes into full conspiracy mode about the “Deep State” in a dangerous new video. Urine drinking promoter Christopher Key is now offering a sticker that goes on one’s forehead to reduce pain. Asked about Donald Trump’s crime, Republican Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy talks about Hillary Clinton. The Eggman leaves a voicemail considering whether Lauren Boebert being a grandmother at 36 years of age is actually beneficial to the right wing Christian movement.

On this show we are learning what it takes to let go, give in, ask for help, and surrender all. She will tell you it wasn’t easy and there was a time she didn’t see a way out. But she met a counselor, a spiritual guide, who told her she deserved that and so much more! If you are struggling with addiction or substance abuse or if you know someone who is, listen and pass this on. Even if substance abuse hasn’t reached you or your family, listen to a story of hope that may give you more than you bargain for.

COOL SOLUTIONS: An E-Bike Loaves to Fishes Story (00:28:00)

“When I read in 2020 that Colorado ran a pilot program to give away just 13 e-bikes, I scoffed. What difference could that possibly make? Now I have to eat my bike helmet.” – Wendy Ring, Cool Solutions Producer and Host. Turns out that mini-pilot laid the foundation for Denver’s wildly successful e-bike program by proving that e-bikes cut car trips and that low income folks do want to ride them. Denver’s program became the model for statewide programs in Colorado and around the country. And e, by the way, also stands for equity. The consistent emphasis on removing financial barriers for low income residents is building pressure to address unsafe street conditions in low income neighborhoods.

Donald Trump may be charged with racketeering and conspiracy in Georgia, as the New York arrest looms. A desperate and panicked Donald Trump releases a bizarre video at midnight. Donald Trump goes homophobic, suggesting Ron Desantis might be gay in his latest attack. MAGA Trumpists and Right Side Broadcasting are brutally trolled at a terrible failed rally in support of Donald Trump in lower Manhattan by our friends The Good Liars. Donald Trump Jr is shot out of a cannon in his latest podcast in response to the Trump arrest rumors. Donald Trump Jr explodes on Ron DeSantis as the Republican civil war rapidly accelerates. Donald Trump has disastrous technical problems during a bizarre religious interview and call for prayer, and Trump blames the “radical left” for hacking his phone. Fox News host is unable to define woke, claiming it can be a “feeling” or a “sense.” Radical Republican Congresswoman Lauren Boebert recites a bizarre Christian prayer in the Capitol rotunda. RADIO ART HOUR: Lee Perry, Dieter Kovai, Kui Dong  (00:58:00)

Today tune in a pop song from Lee Perry, and radio art works from Dieter Kovai and Kui Dong. “Einmal Rckkopplung und retour,” or Once feedback and back, is a reflexive radio piece from Dieter Kovai originally broadcast on ORF in 2005, composed of a series of feedback-related compositions by Dieter Kovai. Interspersed with German-language question-and-answer segments between the artist and a distorted, computer-generated voice, Kovai considers the topic of feedback in broad strokes, from the invention of regenerative circuits in 1913 “an important milestone in the development of radio” to feedbacks use as a design principle by musicians like Jimi Hendrix. Particularly, Kovai muses on the history of positive feedback, a phenomenon that seven different inventors in the United States and Europe claimed to have discovered independently, resulting in a patent battle. The topic is close to the artists heart: Kovais grandfather had worked as an assistant for Alexander Meissner, an Austrian engineer who had observed the principle separate from its official originator Edwin Armstrong. Additionally, Kovai considers himself a conscientious copyright-objector, both appropriating copyrighted material in his music and encouraging his work to be shared freely, making his focus on the historical episode particularly rich. Between the dialogic interludes, the sonic matter of the piece is often harsh and repetitive, composed with a system utilizing a shortwave radio, an Internet streaming server, and patches on the visual programming language Max/MSP. The result manipulates appropriated collaged sound and digital feedback, at times resembling 1990s computer speaker interference or a poorly-grounded amplifier. – Introduced by Wave Farm Radio Art Fellow 2022-2023, Tyler Maxin. Then tune in “Flying Apples” by Kui Dong. An algorithmic composition that takes the listener into the colorful, playful, and fantastic realm of an unfinished childhood dream. Programmed in Small-talk language, using extremely nested patterns based on a repeated three-note motive, the work was completed on newly developed software operating on a Mac workstation at the Computer Center of Research in Music and Acoustic, Stanford University.

We can create many aspects of a preferred future sooner rather than later starting in our own lives, by how we manage our own time and money.

DAVID PAKMAN SHOW 3/20/23 (00:56:18)

On the Show: Failed former President Donald Trump says he will be arrested on Tuesday, March 21, 2023, and absolutely loses it in a string of unhinged ALL-CAPS posts on Truth Social. How will MAGA Trumpists react to Donald Trump’s arrest, if indeed it happens. Why do modern Republicans, including in particular MAGA Trumpists, love authoritarianism? George Soros becomes the perennial perpetrator once again, being simultaneously blamed for Donald Trump’s potentially upcoming arrest, as well as for Ron DeSantis’ possible presidential campaign. Will MAGA Trumpists riot if Donald Trump is indeed arrested? Former Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard has completely lost the plot, talking about imaginary “post-birth abortions” at a lunatic right wing event in South Carolina. 2024 Republican Presidential hopeful Nikki Haley spits put a word salad at the Vision ’24 event in South Carolina as her campaign humiliatingly crumbles. Donald Trump’s newest lawyer, Joe Tacopina, gives a completely unhinged interview to Fox News’ Mark Levin as Trump’s arrest allegedly looms. Trump is fundraising off the possibility that he gets indicted this week. Infowars conspiracy theorist Alex Jones’ conspiracy theory about Donald Trump’s potentially forthcoming address is a wild one. Voicemail caller doesn’t want to hear about the Spanish channel.

THE BRADCAST 3/17/23 (00:58:00)

Encore: original air-date 3/8/2023. On today’s ‘BradCast’: Much of U.S. politics these days warrants more mockery and less outrage, but some areas warrant more concern than Americans may yet appreciate. House Republicans’ trumped-up ‘investigations’ are going very poorly, and have been quickly debunked by House Democrats. Mockery is effective in countering Fox News host Tucker Carlson’s silly, cherry-picked videos falsely portraying the January 6 Capitol Insurrection, which have been so ridiculous that even top elected Republicans and other Fox News hosts are pushing back. But a fascinating new study finds significant proportions of Americans, across the entire political spectrum, are increasingly supportive of authoritarianism and anti-democratic actions like crackdowns on political opponents and shutting down news organizations. Allegheny College political science professor TARAH WILLIAMS and ANDREW BLOESER, Director of the college’s Center for Political Participation, explain their surprising new research, the concept of ‘stealth democracy’, what it all means going forward, and actions that can help protect our democracy and strengthen democratic values in America.

The word “Great”” how can we decolonize that word and heal from there? Some people who have been called “Great” also seem to have The Fabulous Unknown of the natural world in them. Best of ATTITUDE with ARNIE ARNESEN (00:59:30)

Segment One

We begin with Scott Braddock, dean of the Austin Press Corp about the venue shopping done by the anti-choice crowd as they are trying to eliminate the use of medical abortions. Then we shift to yet another republican governor taking over school districts. Just as DeSantis has done in FL, Abbott is now doing it in Texas by taking over the Houston school district. Houston is the most diverse school district in the nation. This takeover stops a DOJ review of the school board. The state will be replacing the school board, which is representative of the area, with his choices. Lastly we discuss Gov. Abbott’s campaign to convince Texas voters to approve the school voucher program he wants to set up.

Segment Two

We then speak with Bill Curry and Alex Sammon about the failure of Silicon Valley Bank (SVB) and how this failure like so many before it, could have been avoided. Regulations exist the require reports, but apparently, regulators were ignoring the danger signs. We discuss Barney Frank’s role. We also discuss the problem with the Democratic party, which seems in thrall to its corporate donors.

THE BRADCAST 3/16/23: It Depends on What Your Definition of ‘Freedom’ Is (00:58:00)

On today’s ‘BradCast’: It’s as if Republicans say one thing but do the exact opposite – – especially when it comes to freedom, the First Amendment, personal responsibility, parental rights, Big Government regulations, activist judges, etc. Wingnut children’s book author Bethany Mandel hilariously fails in the GOP’s silly and desperate Anti-‘Woke’ Chronicles. In the GOP’s Anti-Freedom Crusade, a Trump-appointed, far-right activist judge is legislating from the bench, on the verge of banning the FDA-approved abortion drug mifepristone on specious grounds. Gov. Ron DeSantis revoked the Hyatt Regency Miami’s liquor license in retaliation for hosting a drag show; parents in Florida are increasingly forced into having DeSantis’ Big Government co-parent with them. CNN reports that at least two dozen staffers at Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago beach resort have been subpoenaed to testify to Special Counsel Jack Smith’s federal grand jury criminal probe into the former president’s ‘mishandling’ of classified documents. Stunning details emerge from the Atlanta Journal Constitution interview with five members of a special grand jury in Georgia probing Trump’s conspiracy to steal the 2020 election, with one declaring, ‘It’s gonna be massive.’ Plus Desi Doyen has our latest ‘Green News Report.’

KEEPING DEMOCRACY ALIVE: The Real Purpose of the Fed’s Rates Hikes and Austerity (00:59:09)

It’s hardly just neutral, natural economics. There is method to the madness of austerity. And it’s not pretty. So says today’s guest economic professor Clara Mattei. The burden is not exactly shared. The unchecked power of the Federal Reserve claims its current, never ending rate hike strategy is about curbing inflation. It is not, according to our guest today, economics professor Clara Mattei. That we have become so used to it we don’t see what its really doing, that the sacrifice is hardly collective. It’s never about balancing the budget; it arose from the fear by the wealth holders of the economic disorder post-WWI. She argues that liberal international monetary policy then and now is about protecting the wealthy and paving the way for fascism. Listen in to learn about austerity’s dark intellectual origins and intent.

ATTITUDE with ARNIE ARNESEN 3/16/23 (00:58:00)

Part 1:

We speak with William Chittenden, of Texas State University about bank failures, (SVB) and what this means for consumers. SVB had creeping losses for several quarters, but was not forced to change their practices. It is important to note that many officers of the bank had overlapping relationships with other banks, and with regulators.

Part 2:

We speak with Barry Woods (PlugIn America) and Ingrid Malmgren about converting to renewables, particularly in the consumer energy markets. Utility companies have instituted various barrier to consumers: the utility demand charges are one way to discourage consumers from switching to renewables, among others.

LAURA FLANDERS SHOW: Gaping Inequality, The American Nightmare for Workers: Abigail Disney (00:28:00)

Laura and guest, Abigail Disney, ask how long can corporations sustain the American Dream at the expense of their workers. Is the American Dream dead? While most Americans are earning less than their parents and economic mobility is on the decline, the median net worth of the top 10 billionaires in the world has nearly tripled over the last decade. Abigail Disney, the granddaughter of Roy Disney, one of the founders of Disney, discovered that some employees were earning one two-thousandth of the earnings of CEO Bob Iger. She wrote to Iger, testified in Congress and ultimately made a film, The American Dream and Other Fairy Tales. Abigail underscores the need to tax the top 1%, speaks out against corporate greed and calls out the policies and values that created such gaping inequality at Disney and across the business world. Abigail Disney is an Emmy-winning documentary filmmaker, and an activist. The film, co-directed with Kathleen Hughes is available for streaming now.

Caller asks if it’s ever justifiable to want to live in an ethnostate. Caller asks if the Biden administration should do more to address the Adderall crisis. Caller asks why Tucker Carlson is so soft on Putin. Irish caller asks David how influential CPAC is on American politics. Caller says that Republicans are more tough on pedophiles than Democrats are. The well-deserved accolades pour in — Newberry Medal, Coretta Scott King Award, Cyblis Award, and more — but what caught my eye about Amina Luqman-Dawson’s wonderful book Freewater was her deft deployment of curiosity. Whether as a springboard for her own writing and research, as an invitation to her readers, or the force that enables her characters’ growth and literal freedom, curiosity is everywhere in this rich, evocative story of children escaping enslavement and finding their power. “Curiosity,” she says, “is a wonderful place to begin.”

COOL SOLUTIONS: Denver’s Super-Successful E-Bike Program (00:28:00)

DAVID PAKMAN SHOW 3/14/23 (00:55:50)

On the Show: Republicans are blaming “wokeness” for the collapse of SVB bank. Our newest correspondent Malik Snaps interviews CPAC attendees, and it’s absolutely horrifying. Donald Trump opens his campaign with a speech supposedly about education in Davenport, Iowa which quickly goes completely off the rails. Attendees of Donald Trump’s 2024 campaign kickoff speech are interviewed, and it’s very disturbing. Fox News hots Brian Kilmeade plays catch with Ron DeSantis, continuing the glorification of the Florida Governor. Ron DeSantis tests the term “woke-ocracy” at his latest, low energy event. 2024 Republican Presidential candidate Nikki Haley is unable to explain her plan for raising the Social Security retirement age. Netflix documentary “MH370: The Plane That Disappeared” uses a clip of David to make him out to be a conspiracy theorist, rather than a debunker of conspiracy theories. The primary election in Wisconsin may be the most critical, opening a chance for the state’s highest court to flip to progressives in the April 4 general election, with reproductive rights, gun safety, gerrymandering and critical voting rights on the line in advance of the 2024 Presidential election. Nuclear weapons policy analyst and historian STEPHEN SCHWARTZ unpacks the implications of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s announcement of a unilateral suspension of participation in the New START treaty, the last remaining arms control treaty between the U.S. and Russia. Best of ATTITUDE with ARNIE ARNESEN 3/11/23 (00:59:30)

Segment One

We begin the show with Mark Joseph Stern. Our conversation revolves around the recent vote on the new D.C. penal code. Biden has let down D.C. residents by refusing to veto the actions of the Senate. 31 Democrats joined the Republicans in voting FOR the Senate actions, which went against the D.C. Council, who had voted unanimously on two separate occasions for the new penal code. These actions only renew the calls for D.C. Statehood.

Segment Two

We speak with David McSwane, a reporter for Pro Publica about Health Care Ministries, and the convoluted financial network served to steal and hide millions of dollars in the form of providing religion based health care policies that never paid off. Specifically, we discuss Liberty Health Care, and the legal wrangling that continues.

SOJOURNER TRUTH: Women’s History in SNCC (00:57:32)

Today on Sojourner Truth we continue our Womens Month coverage with a special Friday round panel program devoted to the women who organized with the Student Non-Violent Coordinating Committee. The SNCC, or Student Non-Violent Coordinating Committee, was founded in 1960 in the wake of student-led sit-ins at segregated lunch counters across the South and became the major channel of student participation in the civil rights movement. SNCC played a large part in the Freedom Rides aimed at desegregating buses and in the marches organized by the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and the SCLC. SNCC also created Freedom Schools and played a key role in registering black voters throughout the south. SNCC played a leading role in the history and fabric of the US influencing movements around the world and the women of SNCC played a central role. Our guests for the hour are Martha Prescod-Noonan, who was a fundraiser and a field secretary for the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC) and worked with Bob Moses. She is one of the editors of a book we will also be discussing about SNCC women’s experiences in the movement, titled Hands On The Freedom Plow. We are also joined by civil rights icon and Professor Gwendolyn Zoharah Simmons, who was a member of the Student Non-Violent Coordinating Committee in the South, as well as the head of friends of SNCC, and ally in the civil rights movement Helen Jacobson.

THE BRADCAST 3/9/23: Peaceful Sightseeing at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, and Other Deadly Lies (00:58:00)

On today’s ‘BradCast’: Russia committed new war crimes in launching a brutal, massive missile strike in a nationwide attack across Ukraine, claiming without evidence and with zero sense of irony that Ukrainians crossed its border to conduct an attack. On his Fox ‘News’ TV show, Sean Hannity aired a radio interview with Donald Trump in which he conspicuously edited out Trump’s declaration that he would let Russia ‘take over’ parts of Ukraine. The federal judge overseeing Dominion Voting System’s defamation lawsuit against Fox ‘News’ should grant summary judgment without going to trial because the evidence is incontrovertible and the law requires it, according to an attorney. New, previously unreleased videos of the violent January 6 insurrection at the US Capitol thoroughly debunk Fox ‘News’ host Tucker Carlson’s ridiculous attempts to gaslight Americans in downplaying the attackers as peaceful ‘sightseers’. An Arizona judge sanctioned election denier Mark Finchem over his ‘groundless lawsuit’ claiming he lost his 2022 election due to fraud. La Nina, the global weather pattern that temporarily increases Atlantic hurricane activity and worsens western drought, has finally ended. Late-breaking news suggests the Manhattan District Attorney may be on the verge of filing criminal charges against Donald Trump. Plus Desi Doyen has our latest ‘Green News Report.’

ATTITUDE with ARNIE ARNESEN 3/9/23 (00:00:00)

Part 1:

We talk with Anders Croy, Communications Director, Florida Watch.

We discuss the State of the State for Florida, as per Gov. DeSantis. He did not mention the cost crisis in Florida at all: affordability of housing, energy bills rising, property insurance costs skyrocketing. Corporate influence in Florida is high: 1% of the corporations pay a corporate income tac. Minimum wage laws are being undermined. Permitless and open carry is being proposed.

Part 2:

We talk with Josephine Lee, the Texas Observer 2023 David McHam Investigative Reporting Fellow.

We discuss Gov. Abbott’s (Tx) proposal to deny schooling to undocumented children. This would run counter to the 14th Amendment, and will likely end up in the Supreme Court. In practice, this will make local school officials enforcers of immigration laws. We also discuss the “children’s crusade” by Turning Point USA, which indoctrinates children as early as grade school about ‘good guns’, and how ‘guns are groovy’.

TUC RADIO: Feminist Theology and Women in the Muslim World pt. 1 (00:28:58)

Dr. Riffat Hassan is a Muslim theologian from Pakistan who opposes the Islamic view of the inferiority of women. She says that since anti women legislation and custom are enacted in the name of theology, it is necessary to study the Koran and investigate the source. This required courage since challenging traditional interpretation of the Koran can be a capital offense. On the other hand, we are all familiar with the claim that Islam has given women more rights than any other religious tradition. And Riffat Hassan decided to deal with that contradiction.

JUST SOLUTIONS: Teaching Black History to White People (00:29:00)

This episode first aired in December 2021. The teaching of race and history in public schools has become the latest culture war in the US. Republican-controlled state legislatures have led the charge, and multiple states have passed legislation banning the teaching of critical race theory, and many additional states have introduced or plan to introduce similar bans. Leonard N. Moore, the George Littlefield Professor of American History at UT Austin, asks why is the teaching of Black history so controversial? In his latest book Teaching Black History to White People, Dr. Moore says every white person in America should be required to take a Black history class in either high school or college. He joins us today to talk about his own experience of 25 years teaching Black history.

COUNTERSPIN: Makani Themba on Jackson Crisis (00:28:00)

Media are certainly following the story of the train derailment in East Palestine, Ohio—giving us a chance to see how floods of reporters can get out there and print a lot of words about a thing…and still not ask the deepest questions and demand the meaningful answers that might move us past outrage and sorrow to actual change. Are there not forces meant to protect people from this sort of harm? Is it awkward for reporters to interrogate the powerful on these questions? Yes! But if they aren’t doing it, why do they have a constitutional amendment dedicated to protecting their right to do it?

THOM HARTMANN Best of 1 Hour: Building Benevolence (00:58:00)

Guest host Jefferson Smith leads a deep conversation on what Democrats and Progressives can do to make life better for us all. Plus – polling analyst Grace Adcox shares her insights into how Democratic priorities are seen by the majority of Americans.

This week on Sea Change Radio, we speak to John Stoehr, frequent guest of the show and editor of independent news outlet, The Editorial Board as we examine some of his recent thought-provoking pieces on race, equity and inclusion. We delve into the political nature of depoliticizing the fight for racial equity, look at the Rights obsession with woke-ism and what it really means, and talk about some of the people who have been publicly shunned and commercially shut-down lately, from Roald Dahl to Scott Adams, and what this says about free speech and the marketplace.

Conquering Fear by Alan Watts. Alan Wilson Watts (6 January 1915 – 16 November 1973) was a British writer and lecturer who interpreted and popularized Eastern philosophy and religion for a Western audience. Watts wrote more than 25 books and articles on subjects important to Eastern and Western religion, introducing the then-burgeoning youth culture to The Way of Zen (1957), one of the first bestselling books on Buddhism. In Psychotherapy East and West (1961), Watts proposed that Buddhism could be thought of as a form of psychotherapy and not a religion. He considered Nature, Man, and Woman (1958) to be, “from a literary point of view—the best book I have ever written.” He also explored human consciousness and psychedelics in the essay “The New Alchemy” (1958) and in the book The Joyous Cosmology (1962).

When I read environmental sciences professor Seeta Sistla’s confrontation to the systemic costs of curiosity — a list that is as thought-provoking as it is long — I sent myself on a journey through challenged assumptions and weighted values. This was, I imagine, exactly the effect she was hoping for. She rattled my cage, shook up my complacent self, and got me questioning my own experiments and their unintended costs and consequences. “The more you understand a system, or a set of interlocking systems, the more curious you are about how they respond and behave to change. ~ Seeta Sistla

On this showwe are going to be curious, mindful, and impeccable as we uncover and embrace, why your words matter. So many times we deliver a word never knowing the impact, where it goes, how it lands, and what takes root. Other times, our words never make it to the surface but are cut off by our brains controlling intervention prompted by doubt or fear. On this journey of self-discovery, its important to dig in and learn as much as we can about ourselves, what makes us tick, and what can we do to maximize our impact. You have some real power here, the power of the tongue. Lets not wield it lightly.

CREATING OUR PREFERRED FUTURE (00:29:00)

A Primer For Paradigm Shift is a four part series. It is a how to for paradigm shift. The second half of part 3 takes a look at real life examples of paradigm shift. These are projects and initiatives that give us an idea of what a preferred future might look like – a society that lives within the boundaries of the natural world, strives to bring out the best in positive human potential and is served by an honest economic system. Specific examples include transforming a suburban property, eco villages, youth, investing, neighborhoods and a lot more. The primer affirms, we don’t need to wait for some rainbow future. We can create many aspects of a preferred future sooner than later starting in our own lives, by how we manage our own time and money.

THE BRADCAST 3/3/23: Angelo Carusone of Media Matters on Fox ‘News’ legal trouble (00:58:00)

Encore: original airdate 2/21/2023. On today’s ‘BradCast’: There may be soon be some real accountability for the liars and scoundrels and fake news con-artists on the Right. The forewoman for the Fulton County special grand jury investigating Donald Trump’s attempts to steal the 2020 election in Georgia cryptically suggested that the multiple people they recommended to District Attorney Fani Willis for indictment will not shock anyone. Republican disinformation artist James O’Keefe, who built his reputation on deceptively edited videos, has been forced to resign from Project Veritas, his own ironically-named fake news and entrapment organization, over allegations of ‘financial malfeasance’ and more. ANGELO CARUSONE, President and CEO of media watchdog Media Matters for America, explains the latest revelations from Dominion Voting’s $1.6 billion defamation lawsuit against Fox ‘News’ that exposed how the network’s executives, hosts and guests knowingly and repeatedly lied to their audience to promote bogus allegations of election fraud following the 2020 Presidential election. Carusone explains why the latest revelations are different from the lies that Fox has been caught telling in the past, the potential impacts on Fox operations, and discusses broader implications for corporate media. Plus Desi Doyen has our 14th anniversary ‘Green News Report’.

EARTH RIOT RADIO (00:29:00)

If I had an indigenous imagination (maybe even a little part of mind) and I was dedicated to defending the Earth, but I was exposed 8 hours a day to TikTok, would my activism survive? Would I be able to focus on the toxicity in the investments of fossil banks, and dramatize this crime? Environmentalism was at once based on eloquent essays. Ecological conscience was grounded in research, impactful data and graphics. But now most of the public doesn’t notice such things. Now we are addicted to the little screen. We are “liking” the changes in the faces of Colbert and Gaga and celebrities judging America’s Got Talent. We are “liking” someone wearing a costume that makes him look like a green bush. He is disguised, standing still in this perfect likeness of shrubbery, and he suddenly jumps in the path of a pretty woman. The surprised passerby screams and falls to her knees. This is hilarious. The bush helps her to her feet and she is trying to smile. Where does such a communicating style put our activism?

TURN ON THE NEWS (00:28:07)

“Turn On The News” is the weekly newscast from the fictional Radio Network, with parody radio coverage of the radio and its headlines. Now with computerized news readers, and fewer meddling reporters, plus aggregated reporting, and automated music. Tune in “Turn On The News” each week for the latest news, radio art, and more from our robot reporters, making sure you hear both sides — good and evil — every time you “Turn On The News.” It is often a mash-up of the week’s news, and sometimes a radio news fantasy with song parodies and covers similar to “Dr. Demento” and comedy skits and more.

Best of ATTITUDE with ARNIE ARNESEN (00:00:00)

Segment One

We begin the show with Scott Braddock of the Quorum Report. We discuss the upcoming Reagan Day Dinners coming to Texas, which are sold out, and are a closed event. Trump will not attend, but DeSantis will. We then discuss the school voucher issue for Texas. Abbott has supported them, under other names. Lt Gov also supports them, though they are not popular with rural Texans.

Segment Two

The second part of our show begins with Bill Curry and Stephen Pimpare about the train derailment in East Palestine. The train was 1.8 miles long, with only 3 people on board. Train cars were labeled with plastic labels that identified contents. Although those burned off immediately when the crashed cars were burned. No one noted that chemical reactions during the fire would have produced new, highly toxic gases. There appears to be no accountability for this event. Additionally we go to Florida, where lawmakers want to be able to sue media for ‘defamation’ if what is reported is not complimentary.

SOJOURNER TRUTH: Women’s History  (00:55:16)

Today on Sojourner Truth we kick off women’s herstory month with an all female round panel discussion focusing on women’s work and contributions as caregivers and their central role in movements towards bringing visibility to the labor of women that has been undervalued for centuries. Women and girls spend about 12.5 billion hours every day on unpaid care and domestic work. If we were to monetize this for women aged 15 and older, it adds up to $10.8 trillion a year – three times the size of the worlds tech industry. Unpaid work is essential for households and economies to function globally, yet it continues to be valued less than paid work. In 2023, women in the labor force continue to earn less than their male colleagues across the board. THE BRADCAST 3/2/23 (00:58:00)

On today’s ‘BradCast’: We rarely spend time reporting on phony rightwing ‘culture war’ BS because it is weaponized nonsense designed to keep their viewers angry. For years, corporate media and Democrats have taken the bait, amplifying the nonsense every time they respond to the Right’s ginned-up, manufactured outrages. For example, one might think the nation is bitterly divided in the ‘culture war’ over abortion rights, but a new poll confirms that the vast majority of Americans in every single state support reproductive rights. We debunk Republicans’ new fake culture war outrage attacking a mundane, decades-old investment framework known as ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance), in which corporations and investment managers consider factors like the environment when making business decisions. Also today: Arizona’s Democratic Attorney General Kris Mays has released a report hidden by her predecessor, Republican AG Mark Brnovich, that found no evidence the 2020 election was rigged or stolen in Arizona. Although the probe was completed in March 2022, Brnovich lied about its conclusions while he was campaigning for a U.S. Senate seat, so the state’s new Democratic Governor Hobbs has filed a complaint against Brnovich with the state bar association for possible sanctions. Plus Desi Doyen has our latest ‘Green News Report.’ https://bradblog.com/?cat=675

COUNTERSPIN: Ellen Schrecker on the New McCarthyism (00:28:00)

This week on CounterSpin: If you care about free expression, and freedom generally, there is much to talk about right now. It is good to anchor ourselves in that conversation when we talk about books being banned and efforts to erase entire concepts, and then folks trying to inoculate themselves by saying they weren’t even talking about those concepts, until they learn that actually running away from those ideas doesn’t make you safe. These are not entirely new conversations or struggles. But our past has not been fully grappled with or understood, and that has everything to do with what’s happening now and how we can address it. History is alive and active, and you are a part of it.

CHOOSE TO BE CURIOUS: The Ultimate Exercise in Curiosity, with Filmmaker Antonio Villaronga (00:28:00)

I had no experience with audio, radio, production, editing — anything — when I first undertook this show nearly 7 years ago. But I was an eager learner, improbably on the cusp of being on-air. I had big ambitions and, like many newbies, I had no earthly idea just how big they were. I wanted to open my first show with reveille from the Joint Base Myer Henderson Hall. That shouldn’t be so hard, right? Lucky for me, I teamed up with filmmaker, musician, composer, sound engineer and teacher Antonio Villaronga — and a friendship/mentorship was born. When Antonio released his new narrative short film, You, Too, I wanted to be his first stop on the media tour. And so here we are!
