THE BRADCAST 12/29/22: Encore: Election security expert Susan Greenhalgh (00:58:00)

Encore: original air-date 12/15/2022. On today’s ‘BradCast’: The Justice Department’s newly-appointed Special Counsel, Jack Smith, has subpoenaed Georgia Sec. of State Brad Raffensperger (R) in his criminal investigation into former President Donald Trump’s efforts to steal the 2020 election. But federal investigators don’t appear to be probing the still-ongoing, post-2020 multi-state plot, coordinated by Trump’s top MAGA lieutenants, to unlawfully breach election system security in Coffee County, Georgia and several other states as they attempted to overturn the 2020 election. SUSAN GREENHALGH, Senior Advisor on Election Security at the non-profit good government group, Free Speech for People, discusses the 14-page letter that she and more than a dozen of the nation’s top cybersecurity and voting system experts sent this week to Special Counsel Smith, Attorney General Merrick Garland, the FBI and Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), seeking a federal probe of the coordinated, ongoing plot that poses a major national security risk to U.S. elections. Greenhalgh explains the bizarre GOP scheme to unlawfully breach election security and distribute proprietary election system software in Georgia and multiple states, how the stolen software can be exploited to tamper with election systems all over the country, why a federal investigation is now necessary, and much, much more. Also today: In an unintentionally hilarious and dumb ad, disgraced former President Donald Trump hawks nutty digital trading cards portraying him as a super hero. Plus Desi Doyen has our latest ‘Green News Report.’

KEEPING DEMOCRACY ALIVE: Christian Nationalism 2023: Power Not Piety  (00:59:35)

Who better than a former Christian Nationalist to explain the continued threat to democracy? Bradley Onishi is himself a deconverted Christian nationalist. His new book is titled Preparing for War; The Extremist History of White Christian Nationalism”And What Comes Next. On this show, he answers the puzzling question of why so many who consider themselves Christian have a near worship of the very non-Christian Trump. January 6th was no aberration, it’s been carefully cultivated for the past 60 years. And the concerted assault on democracy is hardly over.

ATTITUDE with ARNIE ARNESEN: 12/29/22 (00:58:00)

TUC RADIO: Michael Parenti: How I Became an Activist  (00:29:00)

Parenti rarely talked about his life. How does a NYC street kid get accepted to Yale? How does he lose the privilege of his PhD. in an arrest at a demonstration against the war on Vietnam, and become an internationally acclaimed author and lecturer? Michael Parenti grew up in a poor, working class Italian community in New York City. When he received his PhD in political science from Yale in 1962 he was the success and pride of his family. He risked and ended his academic career when he openly opposed the war on Vietnam. Ultimately the choice he made then was a good one. He now is an independent political writer and thinker and author of over 20 books. Invitations to speak come from all over North America. His topics are history, fascism, US Imperialism, globalization and terrorism. His writings have been translated into more than a dozen languages. TUC Radio has an extensive collection of audio and video recordings representing about 30 years of work by Michael Parenti. You will hear more rebroadcast throughout this year.Recorded in Berkeley, CA, June 6, 2003.

ALAN WATTS: How to Enjoy Life (00:05:44)

Buddhist teacher Watts reflects on life. Alan Wilson Watts (6 January 1915 – 16 November 1973) was a British writer and lecturer who interpreted and popularized Eastern philosophy and religion for a Western audience. Born in Chislehurst, England, he moved to the United States in 1938 and began Zen training in New York. Pursuing a career, he attended Seabury-Western Theological Seminary, where he received a master’s degree in theology. Watts became an Episcopal priest in 1945, then left the ministry in 1950 and moved to California, where he joined the faculty of the American Academy of Asian Studies. Watts gained a large following in the San Francisco Bay Area while working as a volunteer programmer at KPFA, a Pacifica Radio station in Berkeley. Watts wrote more than 25 books and articles on subjects important to Eastern and Western religion, introducing the then-burgeoning youth culture to The Way of Zen (1957), one of the first bestselling books on Buddhism. In Psychotherapy East and West (1961), Watts proposed that Buddhism could be thought of as a form of psychotherapy and not a religion. He considered Nature, Man, and Woman (1958) to be, “from a literary point of view—the best book I have ever written.” He also explored human consciousness and psychedelics in the essay “The New Alchemy” (1958) and in the book The Joyous Cosmology (1962).

DAVID PAKMAN SHOW 12/29/22 (00:56:09)

On the Show: Despite claims from the right that the left is “ignoring” the Twitter Files, it is actually the right that is lying or confused about what the Twitter Files actually say. As COVID appears to explode in China, required negative COVID tests will again start in the US in early January after a plane from China arrives in Italy with more than half the passengers positive for COVID. Republicans are desperately rethinking their strategy around abortion after the disastrous 2022 midterms. Fox News tries to blame Joe Biden’s Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg for the Southwest Airlines meltdown, which is both inaccurate and hypocritical. Lying Republican Congressman-elect George Santos is now under criminal investigation for his many lies. Lying Republican Congressman-elect George Santos once claimed his mom died in 9/11, and months later claimed she died in 2016. Radical Republican Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene is absolutely furious with Tulsi Gabbard for her critical interview of lying Republican Congressman-elect George Santos on Fox News. Failed Republican Arizona gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake panics and deletes tweets attacking an Arizona judge. Voicemail caller asks whether the George Santos fiasco exposes a failure by journalism and opposition research to catch Santos’ lies earlier.

All that and more this week when you find “This Way Out”: the world’s audio oasis for queer news and culture. LAURA FLANDERS SHOW: The Impact of Sitcom Abbott Elementary: Putting a Critical Eye on Public Education (00:28:00)

Can you remember the last time when the challenges that inner city public school teachers face were the subject of a popular TV series? Abbott Elementary ” which has just been renewed for a second season on ABC ” does just that. The Philadelphia school on TV is fictional, but the challenges it faces are all too real. Closely based on the school that series creator (and star) Quinta Brunson attended, and especially her experiences with Ms. Abbott, her 6th grade teacher, the show combines art, education and activism. On this month’s Meet The BIPOC Press with URL Media, real-life educator Joyce Abbott joins acclaimed actress and activist Sheryl Lee Ralph from the series, to discuss what the show’s success shows us about this moment, when educators, especially teachers of color, are leaving the profession in droves. Can a TV show help stem the tide, shift the culture and change policy? Among her many accolades, Ralph starred in the original Broadway production of Dreamgirls. Is quality education for all, a dream? Laura Flanders and co-hosts Mitra Kalita and Sara Lomax-Reese don’t think it should be.

DAVID PAKMAN SHOW 12/28/22 (00:55:59)

On the Show: Liar Republican Congressman-elect George Santos is interviewed by Skye Ostricher, and despite being a complete softball friendly interview, it still goes horribly wrong for Santos. Former Democrat Tulsi Gabbard fills in for Tucker Carlson on Fox News and does a good job of calling out Republican Congressman-election George Santos for his lies. It would be good for society to find a way to help incels, and it would be good for the incels as well. Fox News contributor Doctor Janette Nesheiwat is calling for the existing protocol to be required for trans children, apparently clueless that it’s already in place. Democratic Congressman Jamie Raskin says that Donald Trump will end his life “behind bars.” Donald Trump looks as scared as we’ve seen him in a deranged new video responding to the January 6 Trump riot committee. Failed former President Donald Trump’s former Chief-of-Staff Mark Meadows is accused of burning official documents in his office by Cassidy Hutchinson. Donald Trump’s tax returns will be released on Friday. Voicemail caller is not happy about the suggestion by David that Jewish Christmas can include Indian food in addition to or instead of Chinese food.

THE POSITIVE MINID (00:57:29)

PART 2 – Guest, Dr. Lisa Miller, Ph.D., author of, “The Awakened Brain: The New Science of Spirituality and Our Quest For An Inspired Life,” returns this week to explain how depression can be the key to a spiritual awakening. Dr. Miller says that the hallmark experience of depression is marked by a loss of connection to self and others but it is also a sense of not being held by a force or presence greater than yourself. Depression can be treated as something we wrestle with, or it can be viewed as an invitation to a reigniting of our “awakened brain,” by connecting with ourselves and those around us. Join Kevin, Niseema, and Dr. Miller as she leads us through two visualization exercises that help us experience our “awakened brain,” providing an opportunity for spiritual growth.

WHEN THE BIOMASS HIITS THE WIND TURBIINE # 166 Nukes in Ohio (00:28:33)

Ohio is dealing with legacy fallout from a nuclear waste facility that has resulted in widespread contamination and soaring cancer rates. Two nuclear facilities are literally crumbling in Lake Erie and are at the center of a scandal involving bribery and the Speaker of the House and other state officials facing prison time. And power from nuclear energy simply cannot compete with wind and solar without massive infusions of public funds. So of course the Ohio legislature has decided that now is the time to create an oversight process that is not subject to public scrutiny ” designed to manage and promote nuclear energy in the state behind closed doors. Annie and Jay Warmke of Blue Rock Station are joined by Pat Marida, anti-nuclear activist for a discussion on just what is going on with nukes in Ohio.

CREATING OUR PREFERRED FUTURE: Conversation with Lilly Pinchiaro (00:29:00)

Part 1

This program features a conversation and interview with Lilly Pinciaro. Lilly describes a fascinating personal transformation. She is from a, self described, upper middle class suburban family. As a teen with her own portable phone, she would inhabit the shopping mall with friends and search out name brand clothes to boast about. That all changed going away to college, reading Thoroeu, Bhuddism, her own contemplation and a month at an organic farm in California. Lilly left college to explore a more eco logical lifestyle that is true to her ideals and values, keeping her family updated as her adventure evolves. She now teaches in a school that connects kids with nature.

A LEGENDARY DEBATE: James Baldwin vs. William Buckley – 1965 (00:58:42)
In 1965 at the University of Cambridge, two of the foremost American intellectuals were challenged with the question: ‘Has the American Dream been achieved at the expense of the American Negro?’ From William F Buckley’s highly stylised posturing and pointing, to James Baldwin’s melodious rhetorical flourishes and memorable scowls, what’s become known as the ‘Baldwin-Buckley Debate’ now stands as one of the archetypal articulations of the dividing line between US progressives and conservatives on questions of race, justice and history. Baldwin, the famed African-American writer, whose reputation as a progressive social critic and visionary Civil Rights activist has only risen in the intervening decades, argues that the very foundation of US society is built on the dehumanisation of its African-American population. Meanwhile, Buckley, the leading US conservative intellectual of the period, argues that African Americans would be best served by exploiting their country’s many freedoms and opportunities, rather than pointing a collective finger at discriminatory structures and institutions. In both cases, their positions presage contemporary divisive debates in the US, though one wonders whether such an event could happen in today’s political environment. While usually reduced to short clips, the full hour-long debate – presented here in its entirety – is a remarkable historical document in its own right. Conducted in front of a large, almost entirely white and predominantly male audience at the Cambridge Union, the encounter offers a sense of campus intellectual life in the mid-1960s through the atmosphere in the room, the things that made people laugh, and the particular references made by the debaters. After the always eloquent Baldwin evokes his personal experience to describe a perpetually disorienting and demeaning existence for African Americans, Buckley responds with facts and figures – as well as an ad hominem shot at Baldwin’s speaking voice – to argue that there’s an American Dream available to all those who would pursue it. In the end, Baldwin prevailed, earning an ardent standing ovation and a landslide victory in the Union’s vote on the motion raised. Audio restoration: Adam D’Arpino.

THE BRADCAST: David Daley of FairVote on SCOTUS nightmare election law case (00:58:00)

Encore: Original air-date 12/7/2022. On today’s ‘BradCast’: Democracy had a good night in Georgia on Tuesday before facing a brand new nightmare on Wednesday at the far right-corrupted U.S. Supreme Court. Georgia’s incumbent Democratic Sen. Raphael Warnock was re-elected to a full term in the U.S. Senate, defeating Trump-backed serial liar Herschel Walker, the latest in a string of losses for Republicans in the 2022 election. The U.S. Supreme Court heard oral arguments in ‘Moore v. Harper’, a case that poses an extreme danger to free and fair elections in America. The dispute is based on a challenge by North Carolina Republicans to the North Carolina State Supreme Court’s ruling that struck down their wildly gerrymandered legislative maps. NC Republicans based their challenge on a radical concept called the ‘independent state legislature theory,’ that they claim gives state legislatures total, unreviewable power to create laws regarding federal elections with no constraints. The fringe theory has never been approved by the Supreme Court in 233 years of US history, but if approved by the Court’s rightwing super-majority, it would sow chaos and overturn decades of election and voting laws, giving state legislatures uncheckable power over U.S. elections, including the authority to overrule the will of the voters in presidential elections. Gerrymandering expert DAVID DALEY of FairVote, who was in the courtroom for oral arguments, unpacks the so-called ‘independent state legislature’ theory, its potentially ‘seismic’ consequences that ‘could shake the very foundation of our democracy,’ how the far-right super-majority is likely to rule, and much more.

KEEEPING DEMOCRACY ALIVE: The Christmas Truce of 1914: Not So Isolated (00:58:58)

Many think the Christmas Truce of 1914 was an exaggeration. Acclaimed historian Adam Hochschild reveals the truth. This was not the only such event: there were desertions, mutinies, and fraternizations. Today it seems anyone with a uniform is dubbed a hero, but what about the peacemakers? On this show Adam Hochschild, author of King Leopold’s Ghost, To End All Wars, Spain in Our Hearts, and 2022s American Midnight talks about those genuine heroes who risked all to oppose that insane first world war, and the relevance to today’s acceptance of permanent war and near silence of calls for peace.

Best of ATTITUDE with ARNIE ARNESEN 12/24/22 (00:59:30)

Segment One

We begin with with Professor Brad Onishi about his book, detailing the history of white Christian nationalism. Historically, this group does not consider that anyone outside their splinter group does not ‘deserve’ the rights of citizenship. And they’re willing to engage in violent actions to show this, as witness the January 6 insurrection.

We would think that this is a group that should be shrinking as they are comprised of many older white men. But they’ve been make inroads into a population of white working class evangelicals and using their religion to leverage and justify their actions.

Segment Two

We then catch up with Jon Erickson, University of Vermont, to discuss the problem of unchecked capitalistic growth and how does this affect the environment? We also talk about the worldwide summit on biodiversity, hosted by Canada.

GROWING GREENER: Looking to the European Garden Masters (00:29:00)

TUC RADIO: A Love Letter to my Grandmother and a Detour into Fast Fashion (00:29:00)

Im recording this at the end of December 2022 – as a celebration of three decades of producing TUC radio as an independent community program. And as a love letter to my grandmother who did all the clothes-making and repairing at home. If she were now by my side would she even recognize the land she walked on when she was a teenager at the turn of the century? And how would she react to fast fashion? An article in the Guardian says that textile production consumes more oil than Spain uses in a year, and significantly contributes to the fashion industrys huge climate footprint. Synthetics also continue to have an impact long after production, shedding plastic microfibers into the environment when clothes are washed. Comments on fast fashion in this program come from Rollie Williams, a New York street comedian with a degree in climate policy from Columbia University. Followed by excerpts from a report on How Fast Fashion & Polyester Create The Microplastics In Our Blood – And finally 10 Fast Fashion Facts You Might Not Know assembled by Planet Proof, a channel that is dedicated to researching and evaluating businesses, brands, and products.

LOPATE AT LARGE: Chloe Sorvino on Raw Deal (00:51:27)

Labeled an investigative journalism classic Raw Deal: Hidden Corruption, Corporate Greed, and the Fight for the Future of Meat offers a shocking expos of the United States meat industry, the devastating failures of the countrys food system, and the growing disappointment of alternative meat producers claiming to revolutionize the future of food. Well before COVID-19 swept across the United States and the chairman of Tyson Foods infamously declared that the food supply chain was dangerously vulnerable, Americas meat industry was reaching a breaking point. Years of consolidation, price-fixing, and power grabs by elite industry insiders have harmed consumers and caused environmental destruction. Americans have no idea where their meat comes from. And while thats hurting us, its also making others rich. Join us when financial journalist Chloe Sorvino presents an expansive view of the meat industry with in-depth research. WINGS: #36-22 Male Victims of Family Violence (00:28:58)

In this interview, Prof. Lysova explains the similarities and differences between women’s and men’s experiences with and perpetration of family violence. DAVID PAKMAN SHOW 12/22/22 (00:56:29)

On the Show: Gerrit Bruhaug, PhD candidate at the University of Rochester working at the Laboratory for Laser Energetics, the largest university laser lab and one of the only places in the world that can do laser-driven fusion experiments, joins David to discuss the recent nuclear fusion breakthrough and what it means for the future of energy. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy addresses Congress during a visit to the United States, and it is both powerful but also strange. Under oath, Fox News host Sean Hannity admits that he never really believed Donald Trump’s claims about the 2020 election being rigged or stolen. Donald Trump’s tax returns reveal that he paid no taxes many years, and even received massive refunds. It is exposed that the IRS has badly failed America in the context of the release of Donald Trump’s tax returns. An incredibly sweaty and visibly confused Donald Trump delivers a lie-riddled statement about the US-Mexico border. Failed Arizona Republican gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake appears to have hired the worst lawyers, as evidenced by the recent video of pretrial hearings. THE BRADCAST 12/15/22: Election security expert Susan Greenhalgh (00:57:59)

LAURA FLANDERS SHOW: North Carolina: Courageous Conversations in a Climate of Fear (00:28:00)

Many questions remain about the recent attack on North Carolinas electrical grid, which left tens of thousands of citizens unsettled, frightened and without power or heat for days. Officials say it was a malicious and intentional attack, but who is responsible for this destruction of vital infrastructure, and what was their motive? In a growing climate of fear and political intimidation, many residents in North Carolina ” the most militarized state in the union, where law enforcement officials are active in paramilitary groups such as the Oathkeepers and a white sheriff was recently re-elected despite making racist remarks about Black employees ” are deeply concerned and had begun organizing a multi-racial coalition to respond. One example is a series of revelatory Courageous Conversations. In this episode, Laura joins one such conversation, featuring Curtis Hill, the head of the Columbus County NAACP and leader of the recall of Jody Greene; Keith Rivers, his counterpart in Pasquotank County; Serena Sebring, the Executive Director of Blueprint NC, the largest coalition of grassroots groups in the state; and writer and organizer Mab Segrest, one of the country’s leading right-wing researchers who is also a consultant with Blueprint. Women in Uganda’s Parliament are passing new laws that aim to protect children and women, and improve conditions at home, school and work; however, implementation with limited funding is a problem. Former President Barack Obama accurately and concisely calls out the toxic elements of the American left that get in the way of progress. Explaining “reactionary populism” and why it’s an appropriate term for many modern right wingers. The Texas Attorney General has asked for a list of all Texas who have petitioned the state to change their sex on legal documents, a chilling revelation. It is revealed that failed former President Donald Trump kept for himself most of the $147 million that he supposedly raised to help 2022 candidates. Failed Arizona Republican gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake is still talking about her lawsuit to overturn the election she lost to Katie Hobbs. Donald Trump’s approval hits a 7-year low as Joe Biden’s approval continues to climb. THE POSITIVE MIND 12/12/22 (00:58:00)

PART 2

The greatest fear we have is not the fear of our own death but the death of someone we love. Dr. Howard Steele PhD. This statement speaks to the depth of our need to feel connected and attached to others with whom we can feel safe and enjoy life. In this week’s show, Kevin and Niseema continue to explore “Attachment Theory” with Drs. Miriam and Howard Steele, Directors of The Center for Attachment Studies at the New School for Social Research in New York City. The Steele’s answer questions from our audience about bullying and how learning the skill of reflecting on your own experience as a child can inform how you parent now, as an adult. We also discover how the need for new ways to be cooperative and civil, rather than competitive, is the next step in our evolution as a species. Attachment interventions and research are available for parents, teachers, therapists, and leaders to learn how to make our world a more peaceful and loving place. Howard Steele, PhD, is Professor of Psychology and former chair for Clinical Psychology at the New School for Social Research in New York City. At the New School Dr. Steele co-directs (with Dr. M. Steele) the Center for Attachment Research. Dr. Howard Steele is also founder and senior editor of the international scientific peer-reviewed journal Attachment and Human Development. Howard is the founder and first president of the learned society, Society for Emotion and Attachment Studies, www.seasinternational.org

Miriam Steele, PhD, is Professor of Psychology, at the New School for Social Research where she co-directs (with Dr. H. Steele) the Center for Attachment Research. Dr. Miriam Steele is also an Anna Freud Center trained psychoanalyst. Miriam initiated the London Parent-Child Project, a major longitudinal study of intergenerational patterns of attachment, and has also carried out longitudinal attachment research in the context of child maltreatment and adoption.

THOM HARTMANN Best of 1 Hour: The Shocking Reason the GOP is Done With Trump (00:58:00)

Julio Rivera isn’t done with Trump unless DeSantis runs against him? Will Republicans ever throw Trump out? It seems they only will if Trump becomes an election liability Trying to overthrow the country on January 6th, apparently wasn’t enough. Julio Rivera, editorial Director for Reactionary Times and contributor for Newsmax joins Thom to debate about Trump, DeSantis and much more. Plus, is it time again to nationalize the rails and what can be done to further stabilize the beleaguered energy supply for Ukrainians under attack from Putin?

THE CHILDREN’S HOUR: Favorite Things (00:58:00)

This time on The Children’s Hour, we explore some of our favorite things. Everyone has something they love best of all, for some of us it’s our pets, and others it’s something totally different. Kids Crew member Genevieve loves opera, and got to attend her first live performance at the Santa Fe Opera this past August. We hear her interview with the Santa Fe Production Director. We also meet Jeanne and Madison from Animal Humane New Mexico who rescue animals, and help them find their forever homes. They brought Ferdinand with them, a sweet dog who loves flowers. Kodiak and Corbit love airplanes, and got a chance to fly with the Young Eagles, a program of the Experimental Aircraft Association of Albuquerque. Listen as they take to the skies and learn the ins and outs of flying an airplane. We have music celebrating our favorite things, including dogs, our planet, food, and making things from scratch. Join us for a few of our favorite things, this time on The Children’s Hour.

AMERICA WORKS: Mario Cervantes, Boeing Air Craft Factory Worker. Wichita, Kansas (00:09:58)

Mario Cervantes, a skilled factory worker who makes the tools that make the planes for Boeing aircraft in Wichita, Kansas, is interviewed by Briana O’Higgins on behalf of the Kansas Humanities Council as part of an American Folklife Center Archie Green Fellowship to document Boeing Aircraft Workers. Shortly before this interview, Boeing–which had been a community mainstay for decades–announced it was permanently closing all its factories, offices and facilities in Wichita. Mr. Cervantes talks about his family’s connection to Boeing, his pride in his trade, and his pride in working for Boeing. He also discusses his Hispanic heritage and how it has impacted his career; labor unrest and his commitment to fair employment; his union; and his disappointment that Boeing would no longer be a presence in Wichita.

AMERICA WORKS: Bernardo “Bernie” Piña, Fresh Produce Salesman. Nogales, Arizona (00:10:25)

Arizonian Bernardo “Bernie” Piña is the sales manager at Ciruli Brothers, a family-owned fresh produce import company in Nogales, Arizona. For generations, the city of Nogales, which is located directly on the US-Mexican border, has been a major port-of-entry for the buying, selling, and shipping of fresh fruits and vegetables imported into the US and Canada from growers throughout Mexico and Latin America. If you, like most Americans, enjoy eating fresh produce from Mexico, it probably came through Nogales. Mr. Pina, a third-generation produce worker, tells folklorist Nic Hartmann what it’s like to be a salesman in Nogales’ vibrant and close-knit produce industry.

DAVID PAKMAN SHOW 12/13/22 (0057:07)

On the Show: Joe Walsh, former Republican Congressman from Illinois and host of the podcast “White Flag with Joe Walsh,” joins David to discuss the 2024 election, and Republican primary, and much more. The latest inflation numbers come in lower than expected, sending stocks soaring, and raising questions about whether the worst is over. Right-wing meteorologist Joe Bastardi goes on a completely delusional rant about climate change during an appearance on Fox News’ Tucker Carlson show. A stunning leak of text messages expose Republicans around the January 6 Trump riots, including Congressman Ralph Norman who was calling for Trump to invoke “Marshall law.” A soaking wet Donald Trump is interviewed by his own lawyer, Christina Bobb, on OAN, and the interview is a disaster. A stunning new poll shows that nearly two-thirds of Republicans want someone other than Donald Trump to be their 2024 nominee. Failed Arizona Republican Gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake is interviewed by former Trump propagandist Steven Bannon, and it’s utterly absurd. RNC Chair Ronna McDaniel doesn’t like being asked about the 2022 torpedo that was Donald Trump. Voicemail caller thinks that David is bad for America, and Trump’s Twitter followers prove Biden is bad.

WHEN THE BIOMASS HITS THE WIND TURBINE #057: Raising Naturally Healthy Pets  (00:29:38)

Like humans, many of the illnesses suffered by your pets are the result of an unhealthy diet and lifestyle. Yet the medical model – which extends to the world of veterinary medicine – seems fairly clueless in how to use natural remedies to keep your pet healthy and help it regain health when things are out of balance. Join Annie and Jay Warmke of Blue Rock Station for a discussion of the realities of sustainable living.

ECONOMIC UPDATE (00:29:00)

On this week’s show, Prof Wolff talks about the social effects of inflation and the lack of accountability on the part of employers. Capitalist employers set prices with the only motive of maximizing. Employees, the vast majority, must live with inflation but are excluded from decisions setting prices. Employers scream labor shortage to get the government to force workers back to work at low wages. Employers recover from economic crashes but undercut workers efforts to do the same. How capitalism works.

RADIO ART HOUR: Jasmina Al-Qaisi  (00:58:00)

“Homoniememorimorph” by Jasmina Al-Qaisi, introduced by Jos Alejandro Rivera, is featured today. Originally performed in 2020 for Anybody out there?! (100 Days of Radio in Germany) at D21 Artspace in Leipzig, Germany, Homoniememorimorph was a live radio experiment using auto-archival methods crafted on the go. Jasmina Al-Qaisi describes the radio action, of which she has excerpted and edited, as an ongoing text writing method with, and for voice, where she re-writes her memory by crossing bridges between words. “Homonimemoriorph,” an invented word of a longer series of invented words by the artist, sonically and visually resembles other words. It is a manifestation of misspelled speaking, and a practice of Al-Qaisi as a poet, artist and radio maker. In the piece, she says the invented word is used to define the words that I feel fit together, and that stands for me, being here taking over talking over the radio; trying to re-order my memories to envision some sort of agency on what our memory is. “Homonimemoriorph” casts a wide net which allows Al-Qaisis words to create and pass through multiple forms and meanings depending on what associations the listener makes. The improvised nature of the piece often results in overtly confessional moments that transform ordinary approaches to what is considered useful or important information. The first public instance of this project was streamed over internet radio, and broadcast on Radio Corax 95.9 FM and UKW 87.5; the latter, covering the vicinity of D21 Artspace. Due to an un-planned delay in her headphones, Al-Qaisi’s voice, thinking, and as a result, the conversation with herself, was forced to slow down. Navigating this live radio time stretch, she spoke while sitting before a table of tiny, misplaced objects she gathered over the span of 15 years. They included scrap papers of invented words and poems, stones, shells, and pieces of metal items. As Al-Qaisi reflected on these objects, she re-wrote the importance they seemed to hold for her, and combined these new histories with samples of YouTube glitches that included insect, animal, and planet sounds, and samples of her friends attempting to pronounce homonimemorimorph. Episode 098.

DAVID PAKMAN SHOW 12/12/22 (00:55:32)

On the Show: Democratic Senator Kyrsten Sinema leaves the Democratic Party, becoming the third independent in the Senate, raising questions about the new balance of power. Senator Bernie Sanders slams Senator Kyrsten Sinema as a corporate Democrat who has gotten in the way of major legislation. The new “gay marriage bill” that was recently passed does not actually guarantee gay marriage. Elon Musk’s “Twitter Files” are nothing more than right wing bait meant to enrage the MAGA crowd over things they don’t even seem to understand. New Twitter owner Elon Musk says Dr. Anthony Fauci should be prosecuted, and threatens to sue Twitter leakers. Radical Republican Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene says that if she had been in charge of the January 6 Trump riot insurrection, she would have been armed, and they would have “won.” Democratic Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is under a House ethics investigation. Failed former President Donald Trump has reportedly not left his home at Mar-a-Lago since announcing his 2024 Presidential run. Donald Trump explodes in dangerous, unhinged and confused all-capital-letters Truth Social rant about election interference, January 6th, and more. Voicemail caller may have fallen for another scam, this one related to Playstation 5’s.

THE BRADCAST 12/09/22: NatSec journalist Marcy Wheeler of Emptywheel on Oath Keepers guilty verdicts (00:58:00)

Original air-date 12/1/2022. On today’s ‘BradCast’: A jury has convicted far-right Oath Keepers founder Elmer Stewart Rhodes and top lieutenant Kelley Meggs on charges of Seditious Conspiracy, and found them and three others guilty of felony Obstruction of an Official Government Proceeding, along with other charges related to their failed efforts to help Donald Trump steal the 2020 presidential election, block the peaceful transfer of power, and overthrow the U.S. government on January 6, 2021. National security journalist MARCY WHEELER of Emptywheel.net explains what the guilty verdicts mean going forward for other upcoming sedition trials, and for others yet to be charged for the same felony crimes, such as Roger Stone, Alex Jones, and Trump himself. Wheeler also delves into topics related to the appointment of war crimes prosecutor Jack Smith as Special Counsel to oversee both the federal January 6 probe and the Justice Department’s criminal investigation of Trump’s theft of classified government documents, what may be in store for Republican members of Congress allegedly involved with the planning of the attempted coup, and much more. Also today: 11th Circuit Court of Appeals panel nixed the idiotic appointment of a Special Master by a Trump-appointed judge that slowed down DOJ’s investigation of Trump’s theft of classified documents. Trump-backed, losing Republican Senate nominee and former celebrity TV Doctor Mehmet Oz is apparently not welcome back on TV. Two longtime far-right GOP operatives, Jack Burkman and Jacob Wohl, who were convicted in a robocall scheme to hoax voters with false election information, were sentenced to 500 hours of voter registration work in low-income neighborhoods.

EARTH RIOT RADIO: My Father Knew A World War When He Saw it (00:29:00)

The evil of Hitler and Hirohito was clear. In 2022 the investor class is openly reaping profits from toxic gasses and it is killing everyone. Every day the celebrity billionaires are in the news, unchallenged. The Earth is the radical today. The Earth is doing things that no-one thought possible. The Himalayan mountains are melting? There were people who didn’t want to believe that Hitler was possible, or that the Japanese would ever matter to us – out beyond the Pacific. We have already had many Pearl Harbors and the investor classes hold on the media and public figures is so strong that we consumers remain immobilized in our deadly sleep, watching the screen.

Scott Braddock discusses the elections in Texas and Georgia. We discuss the economic reasons and political reasons for the economic problems in the US and worldwide. We also discuss why Trump’s issues did not work voters in 2022.

Part 2:

We talk with Bill Curry and Robert Hockett about the Georgia runoff election. Bill Curry’s opinion is that Warnock was too controlled by the consultants and handlers, even though he won. THE BRADCAST 12/8/22: Slate’s Mark Joseph Stern on ‘Moore v. Harper’ and same-sex marriage law (00:58:00)

On today’s ‘BradCast’: WNBA star Brittney Griner is headed back to the U.S. after being released by Russia in a prisoner swap for a notorious Russian arms dealer. The brother of Paul Whelan, an American still imprisoned by Russia, praised the Biden Administration for making ‘the deal that was possible, rather than waiting for one that wasnt going to happen.’ The U.S. House passed the Respect for Marriage Act to preserve marriage equality rights for same-sex and inter-racial couples, with 169 Republicans voting against it. Slate legal journalist and SCOTUS expert MARK JOSEPH STERN explains the specifics of the new bill now headed to President Biden’s desk, and why he believes critics are wrong about the landmark federal statute. Stern also delves into the wildly dangerous case heard by the U.S. Supreme Court this week, ‘Moore v. Harper,’ focused on Republicans’ radical, fringe so-called ‘independent state legislature’ theory, that would dismantle free and fair elections in the United States by granting gerrymandered state legislatures absolute, unreviewable power to control federal elections, unconstrained by state constitutions. Stern also explains the ‘stupid’ case of an anti-gay rights website designer, who preemptively sued for the right to discriminate despite never being asked to design a wedding website for anyone, gay or straight. CNN reports that the Justice Department has asked a court to hold Donald Trump in contempt for failing to turn over all of the classified records he stole from the White House. Plus Desi Doyen has our latest ‘Green News Report.’

KEEPING DEMOCRACY ALIVE: The High Price Paid for Ignoring the Mid-West (00:59:26)

Do we really have to yield the mid-west to the Trumpsters? No one likes to be ignored. We saw what happened when the 2016 Democratic nominee skipped those states. The truth is it was a liberal heartland: McGovern, Wellstone, Mondale, etc. Our guest is historian and author of the new book The Good Country: a History of the American Midwest 1800-1900 Jon K. Lauck who sheds light on the realities, not the elitist bi-coastal cliches and stereotypes we’ve been fed about this huge region, which has a long commitment to educating the masses. Give a listen!

Best of ATTITUDE with ARNIE ARNESEN 12/10/22  (00:59:30)

Segment One

We begin with Ian MacDougall of Propublica and discuss the conflict between how conservative state legislatures want to interpret election laws since the attempted coup by the Trump on January 6th, versus how the Federal Courts want. Will the Supreme Court gift these legislatures unilateral power to ignore the will of voters, the Moore vs. Harper case will decide.

Segment Two

We then talk with Bill Curry and Robert Hockett about the Georgia runoff election. Bill Curry’s opinion is that Warnock was too controlled by the consultants and handlers, even though he won. The DNC should let their candidates be themselves, because that is what voters really want. Biden should consider the country and the party before deciding to run again.

The Trumpist right taps into it and we all know people who perceive a decline of Americas past glory. But the climate crisis may help steer the world away from the longing to retrieve an imagined better past. Listen in.

WINGS #34-22 Fake Abortion Clinics (00:28:54)

This documentary reveals the size and scope of the network of thousands of anti-abortion “clinics” in the US and worldwide, and some of the dangers they represent in pursuing their missions of preventing pregnant individuals from accessing abortions. THE POSITIVE MIND 12/5/22 (00:58:00)

Was there one person in your childhood who you knew you could go to when you were in distress? You knew they would listen and allow you to have your feelings, providing comfort and support. This person represented a “secure base” in a world that may have been chaotic, confusing, and scary. It turns out that having a “secure base” during your childhood makes all the difference in how you love, trust and engage in relationships. Kevin and Niseema welcome Drs. Howard and Miriam Steele, to discuss their book, Handbook of Attachment-Based Interventions. They have made it their life’s work to study the benefits of having a secure base, and what happens when there isn’t one. They have studied and developed effective ways to support parents learning the skills of being a secure base for their children, and in the process learn what it means to be a humble caretaker. Stay tuned for Part II next week, when the Steele’s will talk about the ramifications of a world where striving for independence has eroded the human need for “interdependence and community.” Howard Steele, Ph.D., is a Professor of Psychology and former chair for Clinical Psychology at the New School for Social Research in New York City. At the New School, Dr. Steele co-directs (with Dr. M. Steele) the Center for Attachment Research. Dr. Howard Steele is also the founder and senior editor of the international scientific peer-reviewed journal Attachment and Human Development. Howard is the founder and first president of the learned society, Society for Emotion and Attachment Studies, www.seasinternational.org. Miriam Steele, Ph.D., is a Professor of Psychology, at the New School for Social Research where she co-directs (with Dr. H. Steele) the Center for Attachment Research. Dr. Miriam Steele is also an Anna Freud Center trained psychoanalyst. Miriam initiated the London Parent-Child Project, a major longitudinal study of inter-generational patterns of attachment, and has also carried out longitudinal attachment research in the context of child maltreatment and adoption.

Tune in today to textures of radio, from Absolute Value of Noise, Anna Friz, and Glenn Gear; Scanner; Negativland; and Joyce Hinterding and David Haines. First tune in “Magnetic Radio” from Absolute Value of Noise, Anna Friz, and Glenn Gear. The track comes from their album “Somewhere a voice is calling,” and the collaborators write about the album: “On Christmas Day 1906, Reginald Aubrey Fessenden transmitted music and voice across the Atlantic in the first radio broadcast in history. Inspired by this event, radio artists Absolute Value of Noise and Anna Friz joined with animator/live video mixer Glenn Gear created a performance that worked with the themes of “invisible” sounds, hidden voices, and the early days of radio communication on the Atlantic Ocean.” Next tune in Scanner’s “RF Radiation” from his 1995 album “Spore.” The British artist known as Scanner is Robin Rimbaud, whose early controversial work used found mobile phone conversations. This track is from his second album, and includes a sample of someone warning about the dangers of mobile phone radio waves. Next, tune in “Sequitur,” from Negativland’s 2021 EP “No Brain.” It is a cascade of samples about and from radio wave broadcasts. The dictionary says that sequitur is “the conclusion of an inference.” Finally, the show includes Joyce Hinterding and David Haines performance from October 2016 at the “Radio Revolten” conference in Germany. Hinterding is an Australian artist known for exploring electromagnetic phenomena with large sculptural antenna works, video and sound-producing installations, and experimental audio works for performance. On today’s ‘BradCast’: President Biden signed legislation to avert a national rail strike that would have destabilized the nation’s economy – – but there is much more to the complex situation and the controversial political strategies employed by the White House, Congressional Democrats, and the railroad unions. Now the focus turns to pressuring Biden to sign an Executive Order requiring paid sick days for all federally-contracted rail workers. In Georgia, a man shot a teenager through a closed door as the boy was campaigning for Sen. Raphael Warnock (D), ahead of next week’s runoff election against Republican nominee and serial liar Herschel Walker. A mandatory recount is underway in Colorado, where far-right Rep. Lauren Bobert (R) leads challenger Adam Frisch (D) by only 550 votes. In Arizona, a mandatory recount is now set for the state Attorney General race, in which Democrat Kris Mayes won by only 510 votes. Both recounts will be conducted by computer, which may or may not re-tabulate the ballots correctly. An Arizona judge ordered MAGA Republicans on the Cochise County, AZ Board of Elections to certify their results immediately to prevent the disenfranchisement of all of the county’s voters. Another Arizona judge sanctioned attorneys representing failed GOP candidates, election deniers Kari Lake and Mark Finchem, for filing frivolous lawsuits challenging the election systems in the state’s two biggest counties that ‘baselessly undermine public trust’ in elections. JUST SOLUTIONS: Just Solutions – Teaching Black History to White People (00:29:00)

This episode first aired in December 2021. The teaching of race and history in public schools has become the latest culture war in the US. Republican-controlled state legislatures have led the charge, and multiple states have passed legislation banning the teaching of critical race theory, and many additional states have introduced or plan to introduce similar bans. Leonard N. Moore, the George Littlefield Professor of American History at UT Austin, asks why is the teaching of Black history so controversial? In his latest book Teaching Black History to White People, Dr. Moore says every white person in America should be required to take a Black history class in either high school or college. He joins us today to talk about his own experience of 25 years teaching Black history.

LAURA FLANDERS SHOW: BIPOC Media Covered the Elections Differently (00:28:00)

When it came to the midterms, mainstream white pundits got a lot wrong that local, Black, Brown and BIPOC media got right, and they’re still missing many important stories. That’s the message from this roundtable of journalists we call Meet the BIPOC Press, a monthly feature of the Laura Flanders Show. What do the money medias hits and misses tell us about what journalists need to be doing better ” or differently ” in the weeks and months ahead? For this conversation, Laura is joined by S. Mitra Kalita, the publisher of Epicenter-NYC and co-founder of URL Media, a network of Black and Brown community news outlets that partners with the Laura Flanders Show every month; Habib Rahman, the cofounder of TBN24, the first Bangladeshi 24/7 live television channel in the US, and Stephanie Williams, the executive editor of the IE Voice and Black Voice News serving Southern California. KEEPING DEMOCRACY ALIVE: The Self-Serving Purpose of Philanthropists (00:59:54)

It’s “giving Tuesday.” The hyper rich, instead of paying their fair share of taxes, protect their assets by philanthropy. But who benefits really? At this time of year, we all think about giving. But what are philanthropists all about? To launder a plutocrats reputation, preserving great wealth and maintaining dominance and control. Our guest Edgar Villanueva has a new book, a second edition of Decolonizing Wealth: Indigenous Wisdom to Heal Divides and Restore Balance. Instead of hoarding power and wealth, foundations should address the source of the money. And boards of foundations need to reflect the communities they serve. And it works; there is evidence of positive change. Give a listen.

WINGS #33-22 A Kenyan in the World (00:28:48)

Maimuna Mwidau grew up in a polygamous household. Her father was Mayor of Mombasa and later a Member of Parliament. He saw political “convening power” in this daughter and encouraged her interest in politics. She was educated in Kenya and Canada, and became both a political analyst and an activist for women’s political rights. Diana Wanyonyi interviewed her about her work on women’s inclusion in Kenya’s Constitution and her election observer work in Bangladesh, Ethiopia, and Somalia. While Mwidau once ran for a political office, she doesn’t see a level playing field yet for women in her country, which lags behind many others in that respect. She would like elections to be about the issues, instead of mainly religion, tribe, and party affiliations. She comments on the failure to yet fully implement women’s inclusion in politics in Kenya, and the possibility that the constitutional provision might be overturned. Mwidau was honored in 2013 for her work alongside both the International Republican Institute and the National Democratic Institute – the foreign policy funding arms of the two major US political parties. She is a well known political analyst for various media, and is still researching barriers to women’s political participation and how to make change.

DAVID PAKMAN SHOW 12/1/22 (00:59:51)

On the Show: Adam Rogers, Senior Tech Correspondent at Insider, joins David to discuss his recent article about social media deepening polarization in America, but maybe not in the way that most people would assume. Joe Biden possibly responds to a shout from the audience of “four more years” with what might be “I don’t know about that.” Failed former President Donald Trump’s tax returns have finally been released to the House committee investigating him. Democratic Congressman Hakeem Jeffries will replace Nancy Pelosi as the leader of Democrats in the House of Representatives. Failed Arizona Republican Gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake says she wants supporters willing to go to jail for her. Former Vice President Mike Pence appears on Fox News in an interview so absurd, it rivals some of Donald Trump’s worst interviews. Donald Trump explodes in anger at Kanye West over the recent dinner fiasco at Mar-a-Lago. Donald Trump once again loses it in a middle-of-the-night rant on Truth Social.

Voicemail caller warns David that his judgment day is coming.
