There was a full house at the Friends Church to celebrate the life of Christopher Maxwell.
From Cable Access shows to VCU Recycling to helping design the local Hostel to creating,WRIR, to saving one of the few bonafide rooming houses in Richmond to creating WRWK in Midlothian so he could help put our now Governor into the US House and she could eventually become Virginia’s governor, the People’s Governor. A woman no less. That means she had to do all the same work backwards and in high heels.
She also birthed and raised successful children: Thank you for your service!
Now she can help raise Virginia from it’s “Business Friendly”(labor last) orientation so it can serve Virginia’s Citizens.
That’s the only legitimate purpose of government. Not that leaders couldn’t do both, It’s not really a win-lose world.
Good Leadership is about making the Pie Bigger, not their friends richer.
And that was one of the things Max was most proud of. Helping Abigail win when she ran in the district WRWK is in. Of course the Liberal Women of Chesterfield County did the leg work but we were on air to help.
Host Stephanie brought out the possibilities of having thoughtful emphatic leadership on our side of the aisle in the US House.
Empowering women, giving them voice was a constant theme with Max. As a guy he had a healthy and loving regard for Women and recognized that a lot of men didn’t and that was one more issue.
Hundreds of people came or zoomed in to his memorial to thank Max for sharing his life’s adventures with them. There were also some misadventures but all his energy and passion were in service of that greater thing, Our collective success as a species. And it was not dry and abstract. He had to make it fun to get help and he got very good at that.
He was not a saint but he was fun and for the most part effective and if people felt used they didn’t mention it or perhaps didn’t mind because they were a part of a greater thing.
I think people who came to celebrate Max’s life were really celebrating that at least one of us can live in the place where better things are possible. Who doesn’t want to be a part of Life’s Moon-Shots?
Maybe, if we work at it we might catch up to the possibilities Max saw.
I plan to live my life to the Max, pun intended.
Also, it was great to be in a space where so many souls recognized we can do good things and we have and we will.
Thanks Max.
